SUSTAINABILITY

Our responsibility

Climate change is happening, as a company and producer of garments within the outdoor industry, our choices and how we work have an impact on our future. The topic of sustainability has always been present for us. A major part of our responsibility lays in finding new ways to improve and work better. We have a clear plan with goals set for the upcoming years, and while the biggest responsibility is on us as a producer, you as a consumer also have the power to help us be better!

SHOPPING CULTURE

Power of consumers

We think there is an unhealthy culture of fast fashion and shopping around the world today. Our homes have become our dressing rooms. We consume more than we need, purchase and transport products back and forth across the globe without hesitation or consideration of the impact every action has on the climate.

We as a company carry the largest responsibility of course. There are however some things you as a customer can apply to your own shopping behaviours, helping us become a more sustainable E-commerce business. We have listed some points below for you to consider when placing an order with us, or any other E-com store for that matter.

Thank you for helping contribute to our goals for a better world.

WHAT ARE WE DOING?

Rome was not built in a day

At Beyond Nordic, we have initiated a 5-year sustainability plan for our responsibilities as a garment manufacturer. Just how the Romans built Rome brick by brick, we improve ourselves, point after point. Shaping our path to become a more modern, sustainable outdoor brand that contributes to a healthier planet.

Logistics and fulfilment

We ship all our EU orders by DHL Green Cargo Making the transportation of your shipments carbon footprint 100% climate compensated, great for you and great for our planet! All our produced batches are shipped by sea vessel (no exceptions) to our warehouse in Stockholm. Airfreight emit 500 grams of CO2 per metric ton of freight per km of transportation, while transport ships emit only 10 to 40 grams of CO2 per kilometre.

Plastic is not fantastic, but sometimes necessary. Our E-com bags are made from recycled plastic and on top of that they are also equipped with a return-function, so that the same bag can be used as packaging for a possible return. All plastic waste from our returns is sorted for plastic recycling.

For overseas orders, we ship them in bulk on pallets to the final destination country, where the shipments is sorted on local facility and distributed domestically. A great way of streamline logistics and at the same time save the environment through lots of single transports that would otherwise have taken place.

GREEN CARGO

ETHICS & MORAL

Production & code of conduct

All our factories and suppliers hold the BSCI - code of conduct certificate by Amfori. This certification ensures ethical and moral working conditions in our factories, while regulating the number of working hours per week as well as other working codes of conduct.

Our products are DWR treated with Teflon EcoElite™ impregnation. It is 100% free from PFAS and is made with 60% renewably sourced plant-based raw materials. Making this non-fluorinated product recognised as a USDA-certified bio-based product.

We ourselves make regular visits at short notice to our factories and ensure with our own eyes that the production chain meets the Beyond Nordic standard. This also includes checking working conditions for employees.

For each completed production, a quality control is arranged by a certified independent third-party company. They check to ensure the clothes correspond to our standards and that they are ready for the market.

Animal products

We hold pets and animals close to our hearts. At Beyond Nordic, we have decided to never implement real fur products into our garments. For us this is a no-brainer and we wish this was the case for more companies around the globe.

All our products that contain wool and down come from certified suppliers. Ensuring the wool is collected in a non-harmful way and the down is certified with the RDS certification.

This certification ensures:

  • That down and feathers do not come from animals in a supply chain or subjected to any unnecessary harm.

  • That the down and feather industry is rewarded and influenced for practices that respect the humane treatment of ducks and geese.

  • That the animals have not been subject to live-plucking or force-feeding.

WE LOVE ANIMALS

RE-USE & REDUCE

Beyond reclaimed

As a producer of clothes, it is natural that we also receive complaints, albeit a few. It can be a zipper that jams, a seam that has come undone or other minor defects. This does not necessarily mean that the garment is unusable! When we started our business, the question arose: What do we do with "slightly" defective garments!? Throwing away a perfectly working garment does not feel good, of course, partly from a sustainability perspective but also from an ethical point of view.

We therefore launched the project "Beyond Reclaimed" where we collect garments with small or moderate defects and sell these at greatly reduced prices. The perfect alternative for you as a customer to get a good deal or simply contribute to a more sustainable clothing industry business model. We organise an annual outlet pop-up for our "Beyond Reclaimed" garments, follow us on social media or contact customer service to find out the next date. Garments in our reclaimed campaign that are considered as un-sellable are collected and sent to a textile recycling facility.

What can you do?

Shop with responsibility. Consider your needs and not your desires.

Take the time to bring out the measuring tape before ordering. We have a size guide for each product, as well as thousands of reviews from verified buyers, these reviews can be found on our product pages. You will find the product and size our customers picked along with their body measurements and their rating. A perfect way to select the best size for you from your own home. Even though we offer free returns, every return has an environmental impact that you can help us reduce.

We suggest reading the product information provided on each product page. We know it can be difficult to get a full understanding of a product just by looking at the product images. Did you order a shell jacket and expect a warmer insulated jacket? This is a common misunderstanding. We therefore urge all of our customers to read the full product information to get a full understanding of the garment they are purchasing. If you have any questions, please reach out to our support team who are available every week day to assist you on your shopping journey. Thank you for taking part in our journey for more sustainable shopping!
